Safari Companions Series by Alain Pons and Christine Baillet
Published by Evans Mitchell Books

Tanzania

Evans Mitchell Books have added four fabulous new titles to their Safari Companion series – Galapagos, Tanzania, Madagascar and Kenya.

The stunning photography in these books allows you to experience each country through the eyes of the authors with intimate shots of some of the world’s most beautiful wildlife. Whether you are an animal enthusiast, amateur photographer or just a lover of adventure travel, these books will inspire you as well as providing useful tips and advise to maximise the enjoyment of your visit to these amazing countries.

Galapagos

There are just not enough superlatives to describe the exceptional natural richness of the Galapagos. These remote, volcanic islands remain home to more rare and extant plants and wildlife than anywhere else in the world. For many years these magical islands were off limits to all but a privileged few and even today the number of visitors is limited and controlled. However, for those who do go, there is an abundance of land animals, birds and sea life, the best known being the land and sea iguanas and the giant tortoises. Most of the animals are not afraid to allow you quite a close approach.

The resulting incredible encounters could hardly fail to make a lasting impression on any visitor’s memory. This book guides you along the best trails to find great photo opportunities.

Tanzania

This outstandingly beautiful country is an ideal destination for anyone who wants to discover the wild Africa. Perhaps the best known region is the Serengeti, which embraces, among others, the national park of the same name. Here, the plains abound with millions of herbivores and their natural predators. Tanzania remains largely unchanged by human impact; a land of perpetual light and grandiose scenery, inhabited by legendary animals. Truly a wildlife photographer’s Utopia. As with all the books in this series, the authors offer travel advice and photographic tips of particular help to the first-time ‘safaritourist’

Madagascar

The immeasurable wealth of Madagascar’s bio-diversity would require thousands of pages to do it justice, so this book is simply an introduction to the world’s fourth biggest island. The ‘Red Island’ as it is also known is a land of adventure and surprises, where wild space offers unforgettable experiences. It is home to many enchanting animals including lemurs and chameleons. The deserts, wetlands and rainforests are brought to life by photography in this book. The giant baobab trees are a wonderful feature of many landscapes across the country. All in all, this is a fine destination for all those who love to explore and photograph natural environments.

Kenya

As the primary tourist country in Africa, Kenya is renowned for safaris. The several hundred thousand visitors who come here each year are attracted by the golden savannahs, dormant volcanoes, shimmering lakes and heavenly beaches. It is home to a rich assortment of mammals and birds that attracts naturalists, wildlife enthusiasts and photographers. This book highlights the best areas for seeing game such as lion, leopard, cheetah, rhino, elephant and giraffe. The vast flamingo populations within the magnificent Rift Valley lakes offer unsurpassed opportunities for photographers. The authors share their own experiences and advice.
